Prima: Rising Star

We met serendipitously while filming a documentary of another artist in a recording studio in the heart of Manchester. In walked this bubbly character, dressed in casual sport gear, who caught our attention immediately. It wasn't just the positive energy that accompanied her, but the fact that we had noticed her picture on the studio wall long before making her acquaintance.

Profile

As it turns out Prima, a singer/songwriter from Manchester, was a regular at the studio and had been putting in work. In her words, "let's ride this sh*t till the wheels fall off". Her EP The Butterfly Effect Vol.1: Caterpillar, the first of a trilogy, was released on her birthday, and is available on Apple Music.

She is hitting the right notes, collaborating with producers and MC’s. The impression is, there is more to follow.

Last year saw the classically trained artist perform at MediaCity Unplugged, doing a cover of Lianne La Havas 'Lost and Found'; but what is arguably her greatest highlight, is her song "What Ru Saying?" being select as “track of the week" by BBC 1Xtra and adding it to their playlist.

Manchester can be unforgiving at the coal face of its underground scene. Flattery or gimmickry holds no currency, and an artist will be quickly humbled if they aren't the real deal. So, for Prima to more than hold her own, is a feat that deserves respect in very sense. She is an extraordinary artist who commands attention and she definitely got ours. As she puts it in her own words on her social media account,

"I’m not perfect and sometimes I try to be so together that I forget that it’s ok to be human and have flaws. I’m learning growing and evolving every day and a lot of this growth comes from being around people that are honest and challenge me. If life feels easy then we’re just cruising. I don’t want an easy life, I want an extraordinary one".

Indeed, there is every indication that the kind of life Prima wishes for is on her horizon. One thing that is certain, this is a star in the making.
